Happy New Year! For 2022, my New Year’s resolutions are… well, I don’t have any. In 2021, I stopped making New Year’s resolutions. I don’t need to wait for a new year to do something different. When I want to make a change, I start. If I know my goals for next year, why wait for the new year to achieve them.

Every year, I like to set seven goals to accomplish. One in personal finance, health, education, family, social, career and income. A goal is a future envision, result, or experience that is planned to be achieved. We all have things we want to achieve, but until we have a plan, those wants are wishes, not goals. For the year of 2022, my goals are:

  1. Get family’s financial house in order
  2. Lose 10lbs
  3. Complete 10 online courses
  4. At least 4 family get-togethers
  5. Meet 4 new people
  6. Get a 10% or more raise
  7. Start a new side hustle

Get Family’s Financial House in Order

Analyze accounts

Personal finance is the personalized management of our money. Our finances should be personal to us. Because how we manage them affects us personally, for better or worse. I want to improve my personal finances continuously. While increasing the positive impact they have on my life.

In 2021, I made major strides in my finances. I started tracking my financial progress monthly and having weekly budget meetings. I will carry that momentum in 2022. Expanding the reach to my family’s finances. With the goal of getting our financial house in order as a family. This will entail getting an overview of finances, defining goals, and implementing improvements. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps me progress through the improvements.

Lose 10lbs

zealously pursue change

Health and fitness are a very important part of life. After all, health is wealth. I mean, who wants to gain wealth and not be healthy enough to enjoy it. I want to make my health and fitness a lifestyle.

In 2021, I started working out again and developed consistency with a routine. I also invested in my health and fitness by improving my home gym with new workout equipment. For 2022, my goal is to lose 10lbs. It will require both dieting and exercising. With dieting, I will become considerate of what and when I eat. With exercising, I will continue to workout 4x a week. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps me focus on dieting and exercising.

Complete 10 Online Courses

online courses

I believe in voluntary and self-motivated ongoing learning, aka lifelong learning. Learning is enjoyable to me and I embrace the challenge of learning something new. I want to continue learning to grow, improve, and stay connected.

Courses are a great way to learn a new subject or expand your existing knowledge. In 2021, I bought a few courses. Some of them I did not complete. So, I want to make completing those courses a priority before I invest in any more courses. For 2022, my goal is to complete 10 courses. Completing these courses will also help me make some of my other goals a reality. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps me progress through the courses.

At Least 4 Family Get-Togethers

Family vacation

Family is important to me. It’s easy to be caught up in the busyness of life and miss family get-togethers. Staying in touch with family and getting together is a choice. I choose to make family a priority.

2020, reminded us to cherish time with our loved ones. So, I want to go on a family trip and get together outside of holidays and birthdays. For 2022, my goal is to have at least 4 family get-togethers. The more we get together, the more memories we make. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps plan these get-togethers.

Meet 4 New People

meet new people

Relationships are a key part of life. We meet many people throughout life. No matter what stage of life we are in, there’s always an opportunity to meet someone new. Building and maintaining the bridges of relationships can take us to endless destinations.

In 2020, I joined The Money Launch Club led by Jamila Souffrant of Journey to Launch. In the club, I met like-minded individuals. We supported each other’s financial journeys. The club closed in 2021, but I still keep in touch with some fellow Journeyers. I’ve been thinking about joining another group or starting my own group. For 2022, my goal is to meet 4 new people. There are many ways to meet new people. So, it will be interesting to see which ones I pursue. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps me connect with more people.

Get a 10% or More Raise

request a raise

A career is what we make it. You can stay at the same company in the same role until you retire. Or you can pursue opportunities to grow your career. I’m a fan of growth in all areas of life, especially in careers. So, I’m always looking to be challenged and grow. Because I hate to stay stagnant and I’m not the type of person to do the same job for 40 years and retire.

I’ve been a professional in my career for 5 years and I finally understand the importance of seeking raises. I also understand that the biggest raises come from switching companies. But, you can start at your current company. For 2022, my goal is to get a 10% or more raise in my salary. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps me capture my accomplishments and value.

Start a New Side Hustle

additional income

I believe everyone needs a side hustle. There are many benefits to having a side hustle. The major benefit is an additional source of income. Then, with that extra income, you can pay off debt, build wealth or save more.

There are plenty of side hustles to pick from. I will pick based on my interest, resources and skills needed. For 2022, my goal is to start a new side hustle. To achieve this goal, each month I will assign a goal that helps me determine and start this new side hustle.

Recap

Every year, people make New Year’s resolutions, but I don’t. When I want to make a change, I start. If I know my goals for next year, why wait for the new year to achieve them. Take action towards achieving your goals and don’t wait. Write your goals and make sure you aren’t the only one who knows about them. Accountability is one of the secret tools to achieving goals. After all, that’s one reason I’m sharing mine.

Be WIZE with MONEY
